Welcome Message Welcome to the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (KACPR)!
Sung Oh Hwang

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to improving public education and awareness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Cardiac or respiratory arrest can strike anyone—at any time—without warning. In Korea, about 30,000 people each year experience it at home or in public. Unfortunately, the mortality rate remains above 90%, and even survivors often face serious neurological issues. As a simple, life-saving skill that anyone can learn, CPR performed by a bystander can double or even triple the victim’s chances of survival. Knowing how to perform CPR can help you save the life of a family member, a friend, or even a stranger. By helping each other build on our knowledge and skills, we can help build a safer, stronger community.

Since its founding in 2002, the KACPR has worked to improve survival rates for cardiopulmonary arrest through the development of the Korean CPR Guidelines (updated in 2006, 2011, 2015, and 2020). We provide CPR education programs to healthcare providers as well as the public. Additionally, we research ways to further optimize teaching these life-saving skills; we have published guides, newsletters, and white papers, and regularly participate in conferences and symposia. The KACPR is also involved in many meaningful projects—like supporting young researchers, running nationwide CPR awareness campaigns, and offering free training programs on CPR and automated external defibrillators.

Guided by our mission of “Creating a healthier, safer society through CPR,” the KACPR will continue to lead efforts to expand CPR education, develop improved guidelines, and advocate for policies that help save the lives of people in cardiac arrest. We invite you to be part of our community. Your support and participation will help make a real difference—and could one day save a life.
